Embedding Sustainability In Organisational Culture

Leaders are increasingly recognising that an effective sustainability strategy requires everyone to be engaged and aligned, and for sustainability to be embedded in the culture of the organisation. This raises questions as to how we define a culture of sustainability, how we measure it, and how we create it.

Environmental and organisational psychologist Tim Cotter will present at the 6th Making Cities Liveable Conference, in conjunction with the Sustainable Transformation Conference. The presentation will address a model which defines the key elements of a culture of sustainability, including the 13 key enablers that need to be present in order for such a culture to develop.  These enablers are a combination of the psychological and attitudinal drivers of sustainable behaviour, as well as the support mechanisms that encourage sustainability within the organisation.

This workshop will outline the key steps involved in embedding sustainability in organisational culture are presented, with examples of best practice in leading organisations. The aim of the workshop is for attendees to receive a structured and research-based overview of the essential elements, and key steps, required to embed sustainability in their culture.
