Working collaboratively to promote sustainable practice across the legal sector
The Legal Sector Alliance in England and Wales (LSA(UK)) commenced in 2007 through the efforts of DLA Piper, Business in the Community and the Law Society of England and Wales. The Alliance was created to be an inclusive movement of law firms and organisations committed to working collaboratively to take action on climate change by reducing their carbon footprint and adopting environmentally sustainable practices.
Now, the UK Alliance has more than 300 member law firms, representing more than 30% of all private solicitors in England and Wales.
LSA(UK) was used as a model for the creation of AusLSA and continues to inspire its development.
However, AusLSA is being developed within the context of the Australian legal industry, driven by the needs and ambitions of Australian law firms. From the outset it was decided that AusLSA should focus on the broad concept of sustainability, incorporating environmental and social issues, rather than climate change.
